Monty Don Biography

 

 

Monty Don is a popular garden presenter and writer who led BBC's Gardeners World TV programme from 2003-2008.

He received no formal training in gardening, only learning from experience through his passionate interest in his own garden.

He and his wife Sarah used ot have a jewellery business that collapsed in the early 1990s. This led him into journalism and later broadcasting. Monty Don has also experienced difficulty with Seasonal Affective Disorder SAD. He says the condition has been improved through the use of a light box

Monty Don, like previous Gardeners world presenter Geoff Hamilton has a keen interest in organic gardening and in 2008 was made president of the Soil association - Britain's premier organic association.

Monty Don took over from Alan Titchmarsh as presenter of Gardeners World in 2003. He retired from presenting Gardeners world in 2008 after suffering a mild stroke.
