Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for listing many great people that have contributed a lot to making the world a better place. I suggest considering to add Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to your list. His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has, in my opinion, laid the foundation to creating a world of Peace, Progress, and Prosperity, where all nations will be living and working in harmony with each other. Maharishi expired his last breath on this earth, yesterday, February 5, 2008, but his ground work is, according to my understanding, going to change human life on earth more than any one has ever done in the history of mankind. His Unified Field Based Education will create loving, caring, creative, and happy people in all 192 countries of the world.
With great appreciation for your dedicated attention to the identification of the greatest people that have lived throughout the ages,
Sincerely yours,
Frits Commandeur

Ronald Reagan wpuld have to be in the top 10, even liberals would have to admit this, and unless I missed his name you didn't even have him in the top 100 shame on you
You left out Martin Luther completely? This great man fought against the most powerful evil force known to mankind, tyrannical, authoritarian religion. He set in motion a movement we still experience in America as religious freedom, and the right to live without the dominance of a tyrannical force that claims rights over men's souls. Yet you left him out completely. Shame.
Where is Elvis? There would be no Elton or John lennon without him. Elvis should be in the top ten. When this was done by Matt Lauer here in the U.S a few years, Elvis was number 6... Craig, Frim N.Y
i think Walt Disney has changed a world a great lot too. Just look at all the Disney productions today, be it movies, TV shows, songs etc etc etc. and also all the merchandise. it also gave children a totally different experience in life. it encourages kids to "follow their dreams" and "be whoever they wanna be". All these are important values in life too, besides all the others such as not stealing and etc. Walt Disney to me is indeed a great man.
Hi,
I think that Prophet 'Muhammad'(peace be upon him) should be higher up the list as the is the founder of one of the most important and influential world religions, which like christianity boasts billions of followers throughout history. He was also active as a diplomat, philosopher, orator, legislator, general, reformer and of course according to the Muslim belief as an agent of divine action. His life has influened the lives of billions since his passing from this world and has inspired great achievers in all centuries that followed.
(Unless I missed them)I didnt see the names Helen Keller, Alexander Graham Bell, Elvis, or Walt Dysney. I REALLY think those people should be on the list. After all, they did contribute to the world as we now know it. (!hello! the cellphone, rock music and awesome cartoons!!!)
i think i would prefer soccer plaers like Pele,Ronaldo, Ronaldinho & all the other soccer players who have made people happy because of their way of playing, fighting against racism, attracting thousands of fans world over, donating to charities some of their fortunes. thanks, God bless you!Ben-melbourne(Australia)
It's a good list and to see all these fantastic names of people in one place is pretty special. However I feel that Lance Armstrong deserves a mention! What he did by overcoming cancer against the odds, then going on to achieve such great sporting success is a massive inspiration to millions. His work to set up the Lance Armstrong Cancer Foundation has also had a massive effect on the millions of unfortunate people around the world suffering with cancer.
If there was one word to describe this man it would be INSPIRATIONAL!!!!
how is emily dickinson a person who influenced the world? i would think poets like Frost, whitman, or Poe would be higher than her
Please replace mahatma gandhi by Dr. Ambedkar.
Maya Angelou has influenced the world in a big way. I don't know where she would fit in, but I think she should be there.
I think the Bolivian President Juan Evo Morales Ayma should be on your list, because it is an achievement that Indian to be president of this state, this man got no doubt the dream of peasants who fought for freedom in the colonial era and by giving a setback to government paramilitaries.
(Do not take a point on which I agree with the management of this president)
How about Bono? He is a great humanitarian worker as well as a spiritual person. He should at least be on the list.
Dear Sir,
I suggest Prophet Muhammad should be at number one in your list. I have a reason for this.
1- He is the only personality in the entire human history who is most successful in revolutionizing the people in Social, Political, Economic and Religious fields simultaneously.
2- Most great peoples' work influenced the world much after them like Marx and Copericus whereas Muhammad did that during his life span and still his ideas influences the generations.
3- Through out the human history, those that presented great philosophy and ideas were different people and those that actually applied them as methodology and bring about change in the world were different. like Aristotle and Alexander, Marx and lenin whereas Muhammad not only presented the principles of social and religious belief but also turned it into a revolution to crush the socioeconomic political structure and successfully transformed a society of evildoers, superstitious, illiterates and backward bedouins into wise, liberal, well organised peacemakers and brought equality, prosperity, freedom and fraternity.
Also Mahatma Gandhi by whom Nelson Mandela was inspired.
Dear Sir,
thnaks a lot for listing many great people.
i suggest to add the name either of Goswami Tulsi Das or of Adi Shankaracharya because they were the person those worked hard and wrote the spiritual books n lectures at that moment when it was needed a lot which is very common between us like upnishad vedas n ramayan n many books.
HI,
Please update your list and add the name of Mohammad on the top. Because the world was made for him by Allah.
dear writer,
we are really amazed to read about the list where you have mentioned about world great people,,,,no doubt these all people have changed the course of history, but according to me the person who has revolutionised the world in a very peace, systematic and moderate way is prophet mohammad,so his name is deserve to be on top of all these people,He is not only a great muslim but also a complete humanbeing and had taught and spread the religion of humanity. thanks
why are some of the names in black? why can't we view them? i wish could view them. Other than that, good job!
You might want to include tyhis bloody idiot and the people that put him here. Hank Paulson!
Had Paulson allowed the healthy banks to continue lending to the real economy so it could continue operating as the Swedish model where the State merely sat on the undervalued real estate assets of the Swedish banks for some months until the recovering economy made the assets again marketable to the private sector The USA would never had been in such a mess as it is today.
Instead, Paulson and his ‘crony capitalists’ in Washington have turned a bad situation into a globally catastrophic one. Paulson realising the scale of crisis, largely triggered by his inept handling of the Lehman Brothers case, has created an impossible situation.
Were Paulson to use the $700 billion to buy up toxic waste ABS assets from the select banks at today’s market price, the $700 billion would be far too little to take an estimated $2 trillion ($2,000 billion) in Asset Backed Securities off the books of the banks.
It is highly likely that many and perhaps most financial institutions are insolvent today, with a collection of negative net worth that would swallow Paulson's entire $700 billion in one gulp.
That reality is the real reason Paulson was forced to abandon his original ‘crony bailout’ TARP plan and opt to use some of his money to buy equity shares in the nine largest banks.
That scheme is also dead on arrival as the latest Citigroup nationalisation scheme underscores. The dilemma Paulson has created with his inept handling of the crisis is simple: If the US Government paid the true value for these nearly worthless assets, the banks would have to write down huge losses and announce to the world that they are insolvent.
On the other hand, if Paulson raised the toxic waste purchase price high enough to protect the banks from losses, $700 billion buys only a tiny fraction of the troubled assets. That is what the latest nationalisation of Citigroup is about.
It is only the beginning. 2009 will be one of Titanic shocks and changes to the global order of a scale perhaps not experienced in the last 500 years. The end of the American Century and its Dollar System!
How destructive that process will be to the citizens of the United States who are the prime victims of Paulson’s crony capitalists, as well as to the rest of the world, depends now on the urgency and resoluteness with which heads of national Governments in Germany, the EU, China, Russia and the rest of the non-US world react.
It is no time for ideological sentimentality and nostalgia of the postwar old order. That collapsed during the last few months along with Lehman Brothers and the Republican Presidency.
Waiting for a miracle from Obamas Presidency is no longer an option for the rest of the world.
Don't forget Jesus!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are you kidding? albert einstien 76th? easily number 1 or 2. and jesus didnt even exsist.
I don't think that Hilary Clinton changed the world
Bob Dylan was pivotal to mobilizing the white majority towards the civil rights movement. He sang a protest song directly after King gave his famous speech on the Lincoln Memorial. He also was took "rock'n'roll" and basically invented modern music with Highway 61 revisited, whose opening song, "Like a rolling stone" is considered not only by "rolling stone magazine" to be the greatest song of all time. So, if elton john makes it, I'm sure dylan should.
Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous.
you have some great people, but i don't think barack obama changed the world.
Sir
The one and only Imam Hussain S A has changed the world,I request viewer to know about this famous personality, After knowing his sacrifices, I swear you will cry, even Mahatma Gandhi followed his footstep towards salt satyagraha.
Rgds
Mir Shourath Ali
John Lennon is on your list twice.
I don't think he's worthy of two spots.
good point taken off one of John Lennon's
milton hershey (:
he changed the world by creating chocolate which changes what desserts people eat.
were is hitler? (im in no way a neo-nazi), but he changed the world in TONS of ways. He was the closest person to almost take over the world, and he supported communism (and fascism), which still exists, like in China, North Korea, and (arguably) Russia. I am surprised that Napoleon, and Joan of Arc are there, but not Hitler, Mussolini, or Himmler.
this is helpful for my school project...
i would like to sudest yu make a 100 list for people who are imaginary..
if yu do i nominate
edward elric from full metal alchemist i think he is very important in the world now.
thank yu
dear sir,
you really missed the geratest personality of the world in your list that should be at the top of the list and that personality is of the last prophet Hazrat Muhammad (s.a.w). your list is incomplete without his name at the top. add the name to make your list complete and trustworthy.
thanks
How about the Iroquois people? They provided the foundations for modern American democracy.
I think there is alot of other people who changed the world that you didnt mention such and Helen Keller, Walt Disney, Sacajaweah and Lady Godiva.
They might not have changed the world as much and people like Jesus or Joan of Arc but they still changed the world.
What about Gandhi??
I know it happened in India, and
not the U.S. But I still think that he
deserves some credit. The man fought
against British law without even using
violence, and he did it for his people.
A lot of these types of lists are very focused on recent times and skewed towards American presidents and celebrities who really only changed their own country.
A few names from the past would include Christopher Columbus, Cortes, Pizzaro, Crowmwell, Alexander The Great, Napoleon, Nobel, Rutherford, Oppenheimer, Martin Luther (original), Marco Polo, Attila The Hun, Constantine.
Suggesting that Ronald Reegan or Elvis should be in the top 10 is just plain ludicrous.
i think Tyler Jane Keys (in Australia) should be put on the influential people list because she has influenced people to swim, and she has made people get over the fear of water. She has always stayed positive everyday and she always looks on the bright side of life.
Many people are suggesting names that are already in the top 100
Hitler.........that is all. Should be #1.
Adolf Hitler? where is Hitler ? World would never have been the same if hitler was not there.
Adolf Hitler?
Copernicus should be up there without a doubt he was the first to suggest the heliocentric view of the universe and go against the catholic church... and its funny that someone said Jesus didnt exist ummm he did
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Cesar Chavez these people should be on the list
dear sir
i nominate the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible
your account of the Lord Jesus Christ actually missed out the fact of His Resurrection from the dead, which is the Unique Power of Christ which He gives and shares with all who come to faithe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Messiah from God, from Heaven,
Jesus Christ is the demonstration of the Father's Great Love for humankind, to save them from eternal spiritual and physical death,
The Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is, and has demonstrated, the Awesome Power over Death
He demonstrated the Love of Almighty God for mankind by dying in our place, for our individual sins and our inherent sin nature, and gives us new Life by the Spirit of God, Holy
only Holy God can make us Holy He has done it by making the required sinless Sacrifice of His own Blood that has the Power to remove our sin and sin nature and thereby also death
the Enemy has been defeated, sin, death and the devil were defeated at the Cross of Calvary,
God has made Jesus Messiah Lord of earth as well as King of Heaven because of His LOVE and Life of Righteousness towards God His Father and towards mankind
i know Jesus is alive because He has answered me when i cried out to God for help Jesus IS God
Yeshua, Jesus, has saved my life, physically, mentally and emotionally,
There is no one else in all History Who has Power, Will and Authority, to forgive sins
He alone died for mankind
and was raised from death He has the Love He has the Power He has the Authority
He is Unique in all this to give us, no one else in all history has or could make such a claim or has made such a demonstration
Faith in God and also in God's Unique Son Jesus Messiah IS eternal Life
AM TOTALLY AGAINST THIS CAUSE NAME OF THE GREATSET REFORMER IS NOT INCLUDED IN IT , IT SHOULD BE ON THE TOP RATHER THAN ON 14. THE NAME OF ADOLF HITLER SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THIS LIST.thanks.
the list that you made is not based on eligibility and suitability if you study carefully the biography of each personality i am sure you will find that prophet Mohammad .pbuh. is the toppest and best of all
Dear person running this site,
I also suggest muhammed at the top of the list (not 2 be rude,... u did great) but lets face it, he does deserve it he CHANGED the world. Anyways this list shouldn't include authors or singers but only people who were leaders/hero's and people that changed the world!!!
The fact that you listed George Washington so highly surprised me. George Washington was the first president of the United States....and that's about all he did. He did not change the world. Maybe he changed America, but what has he done to make the world a better place? Americans are constantly taught that he is a vital part of our history. George Washington fought in the war. He led a bunch of guys across the Delaware. He was not a man with revolutionary ideas or who did something to make our world better. He killed a bunch of the British, admitted to cutting down a cherry tree, blah blah blah. He's greatly influenced AMERICA and our CULTURE, but he has not influenced the world or even our sense of citizenship. I would rank a million people above him--Nelson Mandela. Jane Goodall. Martin Luther. Maya Angelou. Mahatama Ghandi. Mother Theresa. Susan B Anthony. What has he done to outweight these and their achievements? He is simply a figurehead and not a radical or idealistic person who tried to bring something new and influential to the world.
oh shit. wow. I though your second list after the top ten was your first and george washington was fourth. haha. sorry.
"Top 100 Great People Who Influenced the World"
- MAO ZEDONG!!!
yo, mr list maker, Jesus Christ was at the top of the list, but then it changed, i hope you do put him at the top. even if you dont believe the divinity of him, his moral teachings are reconized by many religions and cultures. Christians also were started by him. Jews became scattered because of persecution and christian hopes to convert them. He influenced the Roman empire as well as gave morals for the people that went over to America. In america, his teachings influenced the type of Government america has. please put him at the top of the list thanks ;)
I cannot believe that no one so far has thought to choose Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses. Without Judaism, today's world would be polytheistic and would lack the ethical teachings of the Ten Commandments.
i think u should add bhaghat singh he sacerficed his life for saving india from tghe britah rule
I think Terry Fox should be on the list for the sacrifices he made to raise money for cancer research.
CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS ?
